The United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is "officially" the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary democracy.

It has a population of approximately 58,000,000 with the English being the predominant ethnic group and constituting the majority of the population. It is a multi-cultural society with many of its population having their origins in India, the West Indies, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The UK provides a relatively safe and friendly environment within which, and from which, to carry on business. It frequently acts as a "launch pad" for those seeking to carry on business within Europe and Central and Eastern Europe. English is not only the major language in the UK, but is increasingly the language in which business transactions are negotiated and documented throughout the "modern Europe".

The UK economy is a mix of private and public enterprise. Today, the focus of such enterprise is in the provision of services, especially in relation to international trade and manufacturing.
